Somali Region DSWG Meets with Sida and SDC to Advance Durable Solutions

In a momentous stride towards sustainable development and humanitarian aid, the Somali Region Durable Solution Working Group (DSWG) orchestrated a significant meeting on Tuesday, 5th December 2023. Convening at the OWS-Development Fund Meeting Room in Jigjiga, the gathering brought together key representatives from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The session served as a comprehensive forum for discussions, homing in on crucial aspects such as progress, ongoing challenges, and a strategic plan to effectively address the needs of displaced populations and refugees in the Somali region.

Representatives from the Regional Disaster Risk Management Bureau (DRMB) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) delivered comprehensive updates on the aim, structure and progress achieved by the Somali Region DSWG. Noteworthy highlights included advancements in ongoing projects and collaborative endeavors dedicated to durable solutions.

A significant portion of the meeting was devoted to the critical topic of resource mobilization. The dialogue underscored the challenges stemming from limited donors and funds available for executing developmental plans. Despite these challenges, representatives engaged in discussions emphasizing the pivotal importance of attracting and effectively communicating with more donors. The goal is to secure the necessary funds required to support outlined strategic initiatives. This collaborative effort aims to bridge the financial gap and ensure the successful implementation of planned strategies.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all parties to work closely for the next three to four years. The primary focus will be on enhancing the well-being of the Somali region’s population, particularly vulnerable groups such as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees. This collaboration between the Somali Region DSWG, Sida, and SDC exemplifies a steadfast dedication to finding sustainable and durable solutions that positively impact the lives of those in need. The alliance is poised to pave the way for transformative change and lasting positive outcomes in the region.
