Saving Lives and Fostering Development: OWS DF's Comprehensive Health and Nutrition Outreach to Vulnerable Communities
OWS DF understands improving access and quality of health and nutrition services to vulnerable communities is an essential response in terms of saving lives and producing productive citizens to accelerate the development of the nation. Accordingly, OWS DF has implemented various health projects in remote locations of the country. In the early 2000s, the organization constructed several health facilities in inaccessible areas of the Somali Region to enhance access to health facilities in those areas.
Among the major health and nutrition activities conducted by OWS DF in the past following are worth mentioning: through deploying MHNT, tremendous activities were carried out to save lives in crisis-affected areas of Somali and SNNPR regions, including treatment of adult and child illnesses, screening and treatment of SAM and MAM cases in children under 5 and PLW, disease outbreak surveillance and response, and building capacity of local actors to mobilize rapid response in the event of disease outbreak. Moreover, various community-based activities were conducted in the same regions to improve maternal, newborn, and child health. Our activities mainly prioritize the most affected populations in project locations including women, girls, boys, the disabled, and elderly mostly in IDPs, refugees, and host communities.
So far, more than 267,000 most vulnerable communities affected by various man-made and climate-induced humanitarian crises have been reached through the health and nutrition services of the organization.
