The OWS Development Fund (OWS-DF), with support from Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and in close coordination with local education authorities, has successfully launched the Go-Back-to-School Campaign across Moyale, Danot, Bokh, and Duhun woredas.

The campaign reinforces OWS-DFโ€™s commitment to the right to education for every child, including out-of-school children, children with disabilities, and those from vulnerable and marginalized households. The initiative aligns with national education priorities and the broader humanitarian-development nexus efforts led by the Ministry of Education and partners.

Key Field Highlights

Moyale Woreda
OWS-DF teams, in collaboration with community leaders and education officials, conducted door-to-door outreach and sensitization sessions. Traditional and religious leaders played a key role in mobilizing parents and caregivers to enroll their children. The campaign also promoted Accelerated Learning Programs (ALPs) for older learners who previously missed schooling opportunities.

Danot Woreda
The official campaign launch brought together education stakeholders, community elders, and local authorities.

Door-to-door mobilization reached out-of-school children.

School kits were distributed to newly enrolled learners.

ALPs supported older children to reintegrate into formal education.

Safe spaces and psychosocial support (PSS) activities promoted inclusive learning environments.

Awareness sessions emphasized girlsโ€™ education and community participation.

Bokh Woreda
Community mobilization efforts targeted households with children with disabilities and those facing barriers to schooling. Local leaders and school management committees supported the drive to ensure no child is left behind.

Duhun Woreda
The campaign launch saw strong engagement from school communities, parents, and students. Despite limited teacher presence in some schools, local enthusiasm and ownership remained high.

Through these coordinated actions, OWS-DF and partners are contributing to ECWโ€™s global commitment to ensure continuity of learning in crisis-affected areas. Together with communities, education bureaus, and UN agencies, we are working to restore learning opportunities, promote inclusive education, and strengthen resilience across Somali Region.
